Chapter 11

“You know, we don’t have to go out today. We could stay in and watch a movie for all I care.” I said, watching as David buttoned up his dark blue shirt and tugged the collar out a bit. It meshed well with the dark slacks he’d chosen, and the careful way he’d styled his hair made me want to drag him back to bed to mess it up again.

He’d dodged my last attempt to do that, though, and again, he shot an amused look my way from the mirror. “I know, but it’s about time I took you on a date.”

I huffed, balancing my chin on my arms. “We’ve been on dates.”

An unimpressed brow rose to that and he asked. “The ones where we were fake dating?”

I bit my lip, shrugging. “Yeah, considering I started having feelings for you almost from the start, I say they count.”

He breezed across the room, sitting next to me on the bed as one of his hands dipped to trail over my back. The careful touch almost rocked me to sleep until he spoke.

“I’ve liked you for a good bit as well, but the point stands that you’re mine for real now, and I haven’t brought you on a date yet. Unacceptable in my book.” He smiled, bending to kiss my head. “If you don’t want to go, we can stay here and relax, but I’d like the opportunity to surprise you with this.”

That was another thing, he wouldn’t tell me where we were going, just that he knew somewhere he thought I’d like to see.

Curiosity itched at the back of my mind and after a second of consideration, I gave in. It wasn’t like I still needed to heal or anything, and the bed would be here when we got back. Nodding, I rose from the sheets, shivering at the initial bite of cold air.

“Alright, give me a few minutes to get ready.”

He leaned against the headboard, his eyes boring in as I moved through the motions of dressing.

“You know, you’re the first woman I know who says that and actually means it. Even my mother takes at least half an hour.”

I shrugged, tugging on the last piece of clothing and running a brush through my hair. “There are perks to not using makeup, and that’s one of them. I’ve got nothing against it, it can really make your facial features pop, but I don’t have the patience or the throwaway funds for that.”

The last time I’d considered getting eye shadow, I’d taken one look at their prices and turned around. I could get a twelve-pack of donuts and be a lot happier with that money I had spent.

There was no shame in liking makeup, but it wasn’t for me. Not until the prices on it were better at least.

Pulling the last piece of clothing into place, I did a slow turn in the mirror and nodded. The dress blouse was made of silk and flowy, the black ruffles on it adding a flare.
